Funny looking camera

This last spring John and I had had the privilege of teaching a documentary storytelling class together at IFP in St. Paul, MN. We really bonded with this great group of students - Marie (pictured above), Larry, Don, Steve, Babs, Terri and Nancy. We got to know one another well through an exercise in class where we interviewed each other about our dreams. It was a very cool experience and everyone was so good at interviewing that we didn't even give anyone "pointers."

Also, everyone in class has great ideas for documentaries. Marie, for example, wants to make films about solder's' stories because she was about to serve her 2nd tour of duty - this time in Afghanistan.

Now Marie is much more interesting in shooting cameras than guns, so when we got this photo emailed to us from Marie, John Dehn couldn't help but comment that it is a funny looking camera she holding.

We all hoping Marie stays safe and finds time to document her experience. But more importantly, we just want her safe.

We're all rooting for you, Marie! Take care.
